New York City [US], June 22 (ANI): The New York City Police Department (NYPD) announced on Sunday that it is deploying additional resources to key locations across the city in response to ongoing developments in Iran. The move comes as a precaution to monitor for any potential impact on the city.
In a post on X, the NYPD said the increased security presence will be concentrated at religious, cultural, and diplomatic sites. The department emphasized that it is working closely with federal partners as part of its response efforts.
“We’re tracking the situation unfolding in Iran. Out of an abundance of caution, we’re deploying additional resources to religious, cultural, and diplomatic sites across NYC and coordinating with our federal partners. We’ll continue to monitor for any potential impact to NYC,” the statement read.
This enhanced security posture follows U.S. President Donald Trump’s announcement on Saturday (U.S. local time) that the United States had launched airstrikes targeting three of Iran’s nuclear facilities: Fordow, Natanz, and Esfahan.
According to a post on Truth Social, Trump stated, “We have completed our very successful attack on the three nuclear sites in Iran, including Fordow, Natanz, and Esfahan. All planes are now outside of Iran air space. A full payload of BOMBS was dropped on the primary site, Fordow. All planes are safely on their way home.”
“Congratulations to our great American warriors. There is not another military in the world that could have done this. NOW IS THE TIME FOR PEACE! Thank you for your attention to this matter,” he added.
The underground facility at Fordow and the larger Natanz plant are Iran’s two principal uranium enrichment sites. According to The New York Times, the Natanz site had already been struck earlier in the week by Israel using smaller munitions.
The Israel-Iran conflict entered its ninth day on Saturday, with the United States now actively supporting Israel. The hostilities began on June 13 when Israel launched a large-scale airstrike on Iranian military and nuclear targets, referred to as “Operation Rising Lion.”
In retaliation, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) launched “Operation True Promise 3,” a widespread drone and missile campaign targeting Israeli fighter jet fuel production facilities and key energy infrastructure. (ANI)
