New Delhi [India], May 19 (ANI): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday praised the launch of the revamped Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) portal as a significant advancement in promoting citizen-friendly digital governance.
“With enhanced features and improved functionality, the new OCI Portal marks a major step forward in boosting citizen-friendly digital governance,” PM Modi said in a post on X. He was responding to Union Home Minister Amit Shah, who launched the portal earlier in the day.
Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah inaugurated the revamped OCI portal in New Delhi, highlighting its new user interface aimed at making OCI registration more seamless. “Today, launched the revamped OCI Portal with an up-to-date user interface to make registration of Overseas Citizens seamless. The new features will include improved functionality, enhanced security, and a user-friendly experience,” Shah wrote on X.
According to the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), the revamped portal is developed in response to rapid technological advancements over the past decade and feedback from existing OCI cardholders. It addresses previous shortcomings and is designed to offer a more user-friendly and efficient experience for Indians living abroad.
The OCI card is issued to people of Indian origin who have obtained citizenship in another country, providing them with lifelong visa-free travel to India and specific economic and educational rights.
Officials stated that the revamped portal aims to meet the rising demand for improved digital services from the global diaspora of OCI cardholders. With the launch, the MHA continues its commitment to fostering digitally empowered governance for Indians residing overseas. (ANI)
