DHAKA [Bangladesh], December 30 (ANI): Bajendra Biswas, a 40-year-old member of the Ansar, was killed after being shot by a colleague in Bhaluka Upazila of Mymensingh. The accused, Ansar member Noman Mia, has been arrested, RTV Online reported.
“Yes, the incident is confirmed,” Monindra Nath, Acting Secretary General of the Bangladesh Hindu Buddhist Christian Unity Council, told ANI.
According to the report, the incident occurred on Monday, December 29, around 6:30 p.m. at Sultana Sweaters Limited factory in the Mehrabari area of the upazila. Biswas was the son of Probitra Biswas of Kadirpur village under Sylhet Sadar Upazila. The accused, Noman Mia, is the son of Lutfar Rahman of Baluturi Bazar area under Taherpur Police Station in Sunamganj district.
Police and local sources stated that a total of 20 Ansar members were on duty at the factory. At the time of the incident, Noman Mia and Bajendra Biswas were sitting together when a shot was fired from a shotgun in Mia’s possession, seriously injuring Biswas in his left thigh. Colleagues rushed him to the Upazila Health Complex, where he was declared dead by the on-duty doctor.
APC Md Azahar Ali, an Ansar member on duty with the Labib Group and an eyewitness, said that Noman Mia suddenly pressed the shotgun against Biswas’s thigh, asked, “Shall I shoot?” and then fired before fleeing the scene. He added that no argument or dispute was observed between the two prior to the incident.
Md Abdullah Al Mamun, Additional Superintendent of Police (Finance and Administration) of Mymensingh district, confirmed that Noman Mia was arrested in an immediate operation. A thorough investigation has been launched to determine the cause of the incident. The body has been sent to the morgue of Mymensingh Medical College Hospital for an autopsy, and legal proceedings are underway.
