Kabul [Afghanistan], November 25 (ANI): Pakistani airstrikes in Afghanistan on Monday night killed nine children and one adult, Afghan government spokesperson Zabihullah Mujahid said on Tuesday.
In a post on X, Mujahid stated, “Last night at around 12 o’clock in the Gorbuz district of Khost province, in the Mughalgai area, the Pakistani invading forces bombed the house of a local civilian resident, Waliat Khan, son of Qazi Mir. As a result, nine children (five boys and four girls) were killed.”
In a subsequent post, the spokesperson said that one woman was also killed and her home was destroyed. Additional airstrikes were reported in Kunar and Paktika provinces, where four civilians were injured.
Former U.S. Envoy to Afghanistan Zalmay Khalilzad called for “realistic diplomacy” in response to the strikes and noted reports that a Turkish delegation may visit Islamabad and Kabul to help advance an agreement aimed at preventing the use of either country’s territory for activities that threaten the other’s security.
Khalilzad, in a post on X, condemned the attacks and expressed condolences to the victims’ families. He said the proposed agreement could lead to the creation of an operations or monitoring office in Ankara staffed by officials from Türkiye, Qatar, Afghanistan, and Pakistan. Such a center would monitor allegations of violations and coordinate solutions.
He added that patient and pragmatic diplomacy is a better alternative to escalating conflict between the two nations.
Earlier, a Pakistani diplomat met with a senior Afghan governor in Jalalabad, marking the first high-level contact between the two sides in months amid rising regional security concerns, Dawn reported. (ANI)
