New Delhi [India], April 28 (ANI): The Parliamentary Standing Committee on Defense is set to convene on Monday afternoon to deliberate on the oral testimony provided by representatives of the Ministry of Defense regarding the review of resettlement policies, healthcare facilities, and employment avenues for ex-servicemen.
The meeting will take place at the Parliament House Annexe.
The official handle of the Lok Sabha Secretariat announced the agenda on X, stating, “Oral evidence of the representatives of the Ministry of Defense on the subject ‘A review of resettlement policies, healthcare facilities, and avenues for Ex-Servicemen (ESM).'”
Earlier in the day, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh met with Prime Minister Narendra Modi at 7, Lok Kalyan Marg.
This meeting follows the briefing given by Chief of Defense Staff Anil Chauhan to the Defense Minister concerning key decisions taken to counter Pakistan after the devastating April 22 Pahalgam terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir. It also comes three days after an all-party meeting held within the Parliament premises to discuss the same terror attack, which was chaired by the Defense Minister.
In the April 22 attack, 26 individuals, predominantly tourists, were brutally gunned down in the Baisaran meadow. It stands as one of the deadliest attacks in the region since the 2019 Pulwama strike, where 40 Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel lost their lives.
Following the incident, National Investigation Agency (NIA) teams have been stationed at the site since April 23 and have intensified efforts to gather evidence. Concurrently, the Indian Army remains on high alert, launching extensive search operations aimed at neutralizing the terrorists responsible for the attack in Pahalgam.
On April 23, the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) convened to discuss the aftermath of the attack. The committee unequivocally condemned the assault, expressed profound condolences to the families of the victims, and conveyed hopes for the swift recovery of those injured.
During the CCS briefing, officials emphasized the cross-border linkages associated with the terrorist attack. It was noted that the assault coincided with the successful conduct of elections in the Union Territory and its ongoing progress toward economic development and stability.
