New Delhi [India], December 1 (ANI): Opposition MPs will stage a protest on December 2 at 10:30 AM in front of the Makar Dwar of Parliament, demanding a discussion on electoral reforms. The first day of the Lok Sabha’s winter session saw repeated sloganeering by Opposition parties, alleging electoral fraud.
Several Opposition leaders raised slogans of “vote chor, gaddi chod” in the House while pressing for a discussion on the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls across the country.
Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra sharply criticised the government, accusing it of avoiding meaningful discussion in Parliament. Speaking to reporters, she said, “The government does not want to have a discussion on anything. Then how will the House run? They should listen to at least one thing that we ask. If not on SIR, then election reforms or any other related issue can be discussed. How will the House run if they don’t discuss anything?”
Samajwadi Party MP Akhilesh Yadav alleged that the SIR process is being used not to strengthen democracy, but to cut votes of certain individuals. He further claimed that BLOs in Uttar Pradesh are under immense stress and unable to complete the forms, questioning the rush to finish the process when no elections are imminent in the state.
Democracy, he said, will only be strengthened when citizens’ right to vote is protected. Yadav added, “I have information that they (BJP) hired huge IT companies in Noida, accessing voter list details in UP. This ongoing SIR is not for strengthening democracy but to cut votes. On the ground, BLOs are struggling to fill forms under pressure. Why this hurry when there is no election in UP immediately?”
The Winter session of Parliament is scheduled to continue until December 19, 2025.
