
Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh) [India], April 2 (ANI): Punjab Kings (PBKS) secured an emphatic eight-wicket victory over Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium on Tuesday, powered by fifties from Prabhsimran Singh and Shreyas Iyer.
With this win, PBKS climbed to second place in the IPL 2025 points table, while LSG, led by Rishabh Pant, dropped to sixth place.
Punjab Kings’ Chase: Prabhsimran and Shreyas Dominate
Chasing 172, PBKS openers Prabhsimran Singh (69 off 34) and Priyansh Arya (8 off 9) provided a quick start, adding 26 runs in just 17 balls. Arya fell in the third over, bringing captain Shreyas Iyer to the crease.
Prabhsimran continued his attacking approach, reaching his fifty in just 31 balls, and guiding PBKS past the 100-run mark in 10 overs. His explosive knock, laced with nine fours and three sixes, ended at 110/2 when he was dismissed for 69.
Iyer took charge from there, scoring an unbeaten 52 and partnering with Nehal Wadhera (30)* to complete the chase in 16.2 overs.
For LSG, Digvesh Singh Rathi was the only wicket-taker, finishing with 2/30 in 4 overs.
Lucknow Super Giants’ Struggles with the Bat
Earlier, PBKS won the toss and opted to bowl. Arshdeep Singh (3/43) provided an early breakthrough by dismissing Mitchell Marsh for a golden duck in the first over.
Aiden Markram tried to counterattack with a 28-run cameo off 18 balls, but was bowled by Lockie Ferguson. Rishabh Pant (2) and Nicholas Pooran (44 off 30) attempted to stabilize the innings, but regular wickets kept LSG in check.
Ayush Badoni (41 off 33) and Abdul Samad (27 off 12) added crucial runs in the death overs, but PBKS bowlers, led by Arshdeep and Yuzvendra Chahal (1/22), restricted LSG to 171/7 in 20 overs.
