Islamabad [Pakistan], May 11 (ANI): The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has announced the immediate suspension of several domestic tournaments due to “security conditions in the country.” The President’s Trophy Grade II, the Regional Intra-District Challenge Cup, and the Inter-District U19 One-Day tournament have been postponed, with the PCB stating that all three will resume from the point they were paused. A revised schedule for the tournaments will be announced soon, as per ESPNcricinfo.
This move follows the indefinite suspension of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2025, which had only eight matches remaining in the season. The PCB cited the “worsening situation” at the Pakistan-India border as the primary reason for the suspension, following recommendations from Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif.
Notably, the decision came just one day after the PCB had proposed relocating the remaining PSL matches to the UAE. These plans were abandoned rapidly, with teams disbanding and overseas players returning to their home countries. There has been no update on when the PSL might resume.
In addition, there is uncertainty surrounding the scheduled T20I series between Bangladesh and Pakistan, set to begin on May 21 in Lahore and Faisalabad. The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has indicated that it is in “active and ongoing discussions” with the PCB regarding the tour, though the escalating political tensions have raised concerns about its feasibility.
The President’s Trophy Grade II, which began in mid-April, was set to conclude in the fourth week of May, with the final scheduled for May 22. The other two tournaments were also expected to run throughout May. (ANI)
