New Delhi [India], April 30 (ANI): The Press Information Bureau (PIB) has strongly refuted claims circulating on social media that Lieutenant General MV Suchindra Kumar, Northern Army Commander, has been removed from his post in the aftermath of the recent Pahalgam terror attack.
The PIB’s Fact Check unit clarified in a post on X (formerly Twitter) that the allegations are “fake” and appear to be part of a misinformation campaign, largely driven by pro-Pakistan social media handles.
“The claims being made in these posts are #fake. Lt Gen MV Suchindra Kumar is attaining superannuation on April 30,” the PIB confirmed, affirming that the senior officer’s retirement is routine and was scheduled.
The PIB also announced that Lt Gen Pratik Sharma has been appointed as the next General Officer Commanding-in-Chief (GOC-in-C) of the Indian Army’s Northern Command, succeeding Lt Gen Kumar.
Separately, officials also addressed another social media rumor concerning an alleged spy arrest in Bathinda, Punjab. Superintendent of Police Narinder Kumar clarified that reports about the Bathinda Police arresting a spy are misleading. The person in question, Sunil Kumar, is a resident of Bihar and was handed over to police by Bathinda Cantonment authorities on suspicion.
SP Kumar emphasized that no evidence has been found to support the spy allegation during preliminary investigations. The suspect’s mobile data is being analyzed, and an FIR has been registered.
“In some viral videos on social media, information is being spread that Bathinda Police has arrested a spy. I want to clarify that we received a person from the cantonment on suspicion. He is a resident of Bihar. No solid evidence has emerged so far. Mobile data is under verification, and an FIR has been filed,” SP Kumar told ANI.
Authorities have urged the public to refrain from spreading unverified claims and to rely on official sources for credible information.
