New Delhi [India], October 26 (ANI): Union Minister of Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal is scheduled to visit Brussels, Belgium, on October 27-28 for high-level discussions with Maros Sefcovic, Executive Vice-President and European Commissioner for Trade of the European Union.
The visit comes at a critical juncture in ongoing India-EU Free Trade Agreement (FTA) negotiations, as both sides work to conclude a comprehensive, balanced, and mutually beneficial trade pact. The Ministry of Commerce & Industry stated that Goyal’s visit aims to provide strategic direction and political impetus to the talks, building on momentum from the 14th round of negotiations held earlier this month.
Key discussions are expected to focus on market access, non-tariff measures, and regulatory cooperation. The visit will also review progress to date and identify areas requiring further convergence. Goyal’s engagements include a bilateral meeting with Commissioner Sefcovic, followed by a working dinner, where both leaders are expected to reaffirm their commitment to strengthening India-EU trade and economic ties.
This visit follows renewed strategic engagement between India and the EU, highlighted by a meeting earlier this year between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, where both leaders emphasized building a future-ready trade relationship fostering prosperity, sustainability, and innovation.
Goyal’s trip to Brussels comes after his visit to Germany and reflects India’s commitment to deepening ties with the European Union, one of its largest trading partners, and advancing an FTA that promotes resilient supply chains, sustainable growth, and a rules-based global trading system. (ANI)
