New Delhi [India], June 26 (ANI): Prime Minister Narendra Modi has once again lauded the fitness start-up ‘Tagda Raho’, commending the initiative for “beautifully merging tradition with modernity.” His remarks followed a post from the official ‘Mann Ki Baat’ handle, which highlighted the startup’s growing national recognition after being featured in the Prime Minister’s monthly radio address.
Sharing the post on his X handle, PM Modi wrote, “Indian culture offers many ways to remain fit and healthy. In Mann Ki Baat, we’ve been showcasing such efforts, including one such effort which has beautifully merged tradition with modernity in their StartUp.”
The Mann Ki Baat account noted that ‘Tagda Raho’ gained nationwide visibility after PM Modi spoke about it during an episode in December last year, spotlighting its efforts to revive Indian traditional fitness practices.
“When PM Narendra Modi mentioned the Fitness Start-up ‘Tagda Raho’ in ‘Mann Ki Baat’, this initiative to revive Indian traditional ways of staying healthy got the nationwide spotlight! That’s the power of #MannKiBaat — turning ideas into impact and dreams into success,” the post read.
‘Tagda Raho’, a Bengaluru-based fitness start-up, focuses on exercises using Gada (mace) and Mugdar (Indian club)—tools historically used in traditional Indian akhadas (wrestling arenas). The startup garnered further attention when former Indian cricket captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni showed interest and invested in the initiative.
The founder, Rishabh Malhotra, explained the inspiration behind the name ‘Tagda Raho’, which is commonly used as a greeting in the Assam Regiment of the Indian Army. “Instead of saying hello or namaste, soldiers in the Assam Regiment greet each other by saying ‘Tagda Raho’,” he said. “I’m trying to bring out the concept of our traditional exercises in a modern way, so that urban populations can also embrace them.”
Expressing his gratitude to the Prime Minister, Malhotra stated, “I am grateful that I got the opportunity to reach the nation through ‘Mann Ki Baat’ and introduce the ‘Tagda Raho’ startup.” (ANI)
