
Sendai [Japan], August 30 (ANI): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday attended a luncheon with key figures from Japan’s administration, including Miyagi Prefecture Governor Murai, JR East Chairman Fukazawa, Tokyo Electron President Kawai, and Tohoku University President Tomunaga. Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba was also present at the event.
Sharing details in a post on X, Ishiba wrote: “A luncheon welcoming the Governor of Miyagi Prefecture, Murai, the Chairman of JR East, Fukazawa, the President of Tokyo Electron, Kawai, and the President of Tohoku University, Tomunaga.”
Earlier in the day, Prime Minister Modi arrived in Sendai, where he was welcomed with great enthusiasm by locals and members of the Indian community. People chanted “Welcome to Japan, Modi San!” as the Prime Minister greeted them warmly and interacted with children among the crowd.
PM Ishiba accompanied Modi on the Shinkansen bullet train to Sendai. During the journey, Modi also greeted Indian train drivers currently undergoing training at JR East. Ishiba shared a post on X, stating: “Greetings with the Indian train drivers currently training at JR East.”
In Sendai, PM Modi is scheduled to visit key industrial facilities, including a semiconductor plant and a bullet train coach manufacturing site.
Ministry of External Affairs Spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal highlighted the symbolism of the two leaders traveling together. “A journey of friendship and progress. In a unique gesture symbolizing the warmth of the India-Japan friendship, PM Narendra Modi and PM Shigeru Ishiba travelled together to Sendai, Miyagi Prefecture, on the Shinkansen,” Jaiswal said in a post on X.
PM Modi is on a two-day official visit to Japan for the 15th India-Japan Annual Summit with Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba. (ANI)
