New Delhi [India], June 4 (ANI):
Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed deep sorrow following the tragic stampede that claimed more than 11 lives during the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) IPL 2025 title celebration at Chinnaswamy Stadium. The PM described the incident as “absolutely heartrending” and extended his condolences to the families of the deceased while praying for the speedy recovery of those injured.
In an official statement shared on X (formerly Twitter) by the Prime Minister’s Office, Modi said, “The mishap in Bengaluru is absolutely heartrending. In this tragic hour, my thoughts are with all those who have lost their loved ones. I pray that those who are injured have a speedy recovery.”
Senior Congress leader and Karnataka Legislative Council member BK Hariprasad confirmed the death toll and described the incident as “extremely shocking and regrettable.” He urged the government to ensure immediate and adequate medical treatment for the injured.
Meanwhile, the opposition, led by the BJP and its allies, strongly condemned the Congress-led Karnataka Government for the tragedy, branding it “state-sponsored criminal negligence and murder.” BJP National Spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla demanded the resignations of Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, Deputy CM DK Shivakumar, and the Home Minister, accusing them of direct responsibility for the disaster. He criticised the government’s insensitivity for continuing celebrations despite the fatalities, saying, “People were being carried on arms… The Congress government is responsible.”
JDS leader Nikhil Kumaraswamy also condemned the administration’s handling of the event, stating that despite the massive turnout being anticipated, the government showed “zero preparedness” with no proper planning, crowd management, or safety protocols in place.
The tragedy has cast a shadow over RCB’s historic IPL victory, where the team defeated Punjab Kings by six runs at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Tuesday, ending their long wait for a maiden title. (ANI)
