New Delhi [India], October 7 (ANI): Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke with Russian President Vladimir Putin on Tuesday to extend warm greetings on his 73rd birthday, reaffirming the strength of the India-Russia Special and Privileged Strategic Partnership, according to an official statement.
During the telephone conversation, Prime Minister Modi conveyed best wishes for President Putin’s good health and success in all endeavours. The two leaders reviewed progress in the bilateral agenda and reaffirmed their commitment to deepening ties between the two nations. Modi also expressed his anticipation of welcoming President Putin to India for the 23rd India-Russia Annual Summit in December.
Earlier, on September 27, President Putin had held a similar conversation with Prime Minister Modi, reaffirming the strong and time-tested nature of India-Russia relations. Speaking to members of the Russian Government, Putin described these ties as “based on a national consensus” and praised India’s governance and economic growth under Modi’s leadership. “Under the leadership of Prime Minister Modi, India was pursuing a completely independent, sovereign policy and achieving very good results in the economic sphere,” he said, noting India’s leading growth rates among major economies.
As reported by TV BRICS, the recent call followed a congratulatory telegram sent by Putin to Modi on his 75th birthday, in which the Russian leader highlighted Modi’s personal contribution to strengthening bilateral cooperation. “You made a great personal contribution to strengthening the special privileged strategic partnership between our countries and developing mutually beneficial Russian-Indian cooperation in various areas,” Putin stated.
The Ministry of External Affairs noted that Russia remains a longstanding and trusted partner of India, with the India-Russia relationship anchored since the signing of the “Declaration on the India-Russia Strategic Partnership” in October 2000 during President Putin’s visit to India.
Further reflecting continued diplomatic engagement, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar held talks with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov on the sidelines of the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York. The Russian Embassy confirmed the meeting on X, with Jaishankar later writing, “Good conversation with FM Sergey Lavrov of Russia on the sidelines of #UNGA80. Useful discussion on bilateral ties, the Ukraine conflict and developments in the Middle East.”
