
Purnea (Bihar) [India], September 15 (ANI): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday inaugurated and laid the foundation stone for development projects worth around Rs 40,000 crore in Purnea, Bihar. Addressing the gathering, the Prime Minister highlighted Purnea’s rich cultural and historical heritage, noting its connection to Maa Puran Devi, Bhakt Prahlad, Maharshi Mehi Baba, and literary figures like Phanishwarnath Renu and Satinath Bhaduri.
PM Modi emphasised that these projects—spanning railways, airports, electricity, water infrastructure, and housing—aim to fulfil the aspirations of the Seemanchal region. Over 40,000 beneficiaries have received permanent housing under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, a milestone celebrated as a new beginning ahead of festivals such as Dhanteras, Diwali, and Chhath Puja. The Prime Minister reaffirmed the government’s commitment to constructing homes for every poor citizen.
On infrastructure, PM Modi inaugurated the Interim Terminal Building at the New Civil Enclave of Purnea Airport, enhancing passenger handling capacity and placing the city on India’s aviation map. He flagged off the Vande Bharat Express between Jogbani and Danapur, two Amrit Bharat Express trains, and a passenger train, while inaugurating the new Araria–Galgalia rail line and laying the foundation stone for the Vikramshila–Kataria rail line. The Prime Minister also announced the approval of the Mokama–Munger section of the Buxar–Bhagalpur high-speed corridor and the doubling of the Bhagalpur–Dumka–Rampurhat rail line, strengthening regional connectivity and economic integration.
PM Modi laid the foundation stone for the 3×800 MW thermal power project at Pirpainti, Bhagalpur, Bihar’s largest private sector investment worth Rs 25,000 crore, utilising ultra-supercritical, low-emission technology to bolster the state’s energy security. He also inaugurated Phase 1 of the Kosi-Mechi Intra-State River Link Project, valued at over Rs 2,680 crore, aimed at canal renovation, flood control, irrigation expansion, and agricultural resilience.
Highlighting agricultural development, the Prime Minister launched the National Makhana Board in Bihar to support production, technology adoption, post-harvest management, value addition, processing, and export promotion, benefiting farmers across key districts such as Madhubani, Darbhanga, Sitamarhi, Saharsa, Katihar, Purnea, Supaul, Kishanganj, and Araria.
PM Modi inaugurated the Sex-Sorted Semen Facility under the Rashtriya Gokul Mission, capable of producing 5 lakh doses annually. The facility, first of its kind in eastern and north-eastern India, will aid small and marginal farmers by increasing female calf births, improving dairy productivity, and boosting incomes.
The Prime Minister also participated in Griha Pravesh ceremonies, handing over keys to over 35,000 rural and 5,920 urban beneficiaries under PMAY (R) and PMAY (U).
Speaking on governance and development, PM Modi underscored the government’s focus on the welfare of the poor and marginalised, improvements in education, healthcare, and women’s empowerment through initiatives such as the Jeevika Didi campaign and the Community Investment Fund of approximately Rs 500 crore. He also criticised opposition parties for neglecting Bihar’s development and emphasised the government’s firm stance on national security, illegal infiltration, and regional progress.
The Governor of Bihar, Arif Mohammed Khan; Chief Minister Nitish Kumar; and Union Ministers Rammohan Naidu, Rajiv Ranjan Singh, Jitan Ram Manji, Giriraj Singh, Chirag Paswan, Nityanand Rai, Ram Nath Thakur, Dr. Raj Bhushan Choudhary, and Satish Chandra Dubey were present at the event. (ANI)
