Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh) [India], June 15 (ANI): Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Sunday said Prime Minister Narendra Modi has made it clear to the world that India’s blood is not meant to be shed and any such act will be met with firm retaliation. His comments came while referring to Operation Sindoor, which targeted and destroyed terror bases following the deadly Pahalgam attack in April.
Addressing a public gathering in Lucknow, Shah stated, “Pakistan tried to attack India thrice during PM Modi’s tenure. After Uri, we carried out a surgical strike. After Pulwama, we launched an air strike. And after Pahalgam, the terrorist headquarters were destroyed in Operation Sindoor. PM Modi sent a message to the entire country and the world that India’s blood is not meant to be shed, and whoever dares to do so will be punished.”
Shah was in Lucknow to attend a ceremony where over 60,000 newly selected police constables were handed appointment letters by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.
Taking a swipe at the Congress party, Shah said, “Terrorist attacks were almost a daily occurrence under Congress’ rule—Ahmedabad, Jaipur, Coimbatore, Delhi, and Kashmir were frequent targets. The Modi government has shown that we do not tolerate such attacks.”
Shah also emphasized the government’s progress in tackling Naxalism, stating that it has now been confined to just three districts compared to 11 states a decade ago. “In 11 years of PM Modi’s governance, the country has become safer. By March 31, 2026, we will eradicate Naxalism completely,” he declared.
Operation Sindoor was launched by India on May 7 as a counter to the April Pahalgam terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir, which killed 26 people, mostly tourists. Following Pakistan’s retaliation, Indian armed forces conducted targeted strikes on terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir. These actions resulted in the deaths of over 100 terrorists affiliated with groups like Jaish-e-Mohammed, Lashkar-e-Taiba, and Hizbul Mujahideen.
In parallel, Indian security forces have intensified operations against Naxals in Chhattisgarh and neighboring regions. On May 21, 27 Naxals were killed during an encounter in the forests of Boter village. Among the high-profile eliminations were CPI (Maoist) General Secretary and Polit Bureau member Basavaraju alias Gaganna, Central Committee Member Gautam alias Sudhakar, and Bhaskar.
According to government data, incidents of Naxal violence have dropped by 53% in the last decade (2014–2024) compared to the previous one (2004–2014). From 16,463 incidents recorded between 2004 and 2014, the number fell to 7,744 in the following ten years.
Officials attribute this decline to intensified counter-insurgency operations and strategic planning by the security forces. (ANI)
