Tokyo [Japan], August 29 (ANI): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday met with former Japanese prime ministers Yoshihide Suga and Fumio Kishida during his visit to Tokyo. Suga served as Japan’s prime minister from 2020 to 2021, while Kishida held office from 2021 to 2024. Both leaders are members of Japan’s ruling Liberal Democratic Party.
PM Modi arrived in Tokyo on Friday morning for a two-day official visit, during which he will also attend the 15th India-Japan Annual Summit.
Earlier in the day, Modi addressed the India-Japan Economic Forum, where he highlighted the growing investment of foreign companies in India and said that capital in India not only grows but multiplies.
“JETRO (Japan External Trade Organization) says that 80 percent of companies want to expand in India. Seventy-five percent of companies are making profits. In India, capital does not just grow, it multiplies,” Modi said.
The Prime Minister credited India’s development to its “reform, perform, and transform” approach, pointing to initiatives such as the Goods and Services Tax (GST) and measures to improve ease of doing business.
“Our approach of reform, perform, and transform is behind this change. In 2017, we started One Nation One Tax; now we are bringing new reforms to this. We have given importance to ease of doing business. We have provided single-window approval for businesses,” Modi said.
He further noted that India’s talent combined with Japan’s technology could lead the tech revolution of this century.
“Japan is a tech powerhouse and India is a talent powerhouse. India has taken bold and ambitious initiatives in AI, semiconductors, quantum computing, biotechnology, and space,” he said.
Modi also underlined that India and Japan have signed an agreement on a Joint Credit Mechanism for cooperation on clean energy and a green future.
Later today, PM Modi is scheduled to meet Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba, with discussions expected to focus on strengthening bilateral relations.
“I warmly welcome Prime Minister Modi’s visit to Japan. I look forward to discussing the strengthening of Japan-India relations in various fields with the Prime Minister,” Ishiba said in a post on X.
Following his Japan visit, PM Modi will travel to China from August 31 to September 1 to attend the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit in Tianjin. (ANI)
