Amman, Jordan, December 15 (ANI): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday met Jordan’s King Abdullah II bin Al Hussein at the Husseiniya Palace in Amman for delegation-level talks, during which the two leaders reviewed bilateral relations and discussed regional and global issues with a focus on peace and counterterrorism.
Recalling the long trajectory of engagement between the two leaders, Prime Minister Modi referred to earlier meetings centered on extremism and moderation. Reflecting on those interactions, he recalled participating with King Abdullah II in a conference on Islamic heritage during the monarch’s visit to India in 2018, and their first meeting on the sidelines of the United Nations in 2015 at an event focused on countering violent extremism.
Prime Minister Modi said King Abdullah II’s efforts to promote moderation are vital not only for regional peace but also for global peace, adding that both sides would continue to move forward concretely in strengthening cooperation across multiple dimensions.
The Prime Minister highlighted Jordan’s consistent position under the leadership of King Abdullah II, noting that the country has projected a firm message against violence. He said India and Jordan remain aligned in their approach to countering terrorism, extremism, and radicalization.
Linking this shared outlook to regional developments, Prime Minister Modi acknowledged the Jordanian monarch’s active engagement on regional stability, particularly with regard to Gaza. He expressed hope that peace and stability would prevail in the region and said Jordan, under King Abdullah II’s leadership, has sent a strong and strategic message against terrorism, extremism, and radicalization.
The discussions took place as Prime Minister Modi arrived in Jordan on a two-day visit at the invitation of King Abdullah II, marking the first stop of his four-day, three-nation tour. Ahead of the visit, the Prime Minister had said his engagement with Jordan would help deepen bilateral cooperation across multiple sectors.
Welcoming the Indian leader, King Abdullah II expressed confidence that the visit would yield tangible outcomes. He welcomed the signing of agreements and memorandums of understanding during the visit, saying they would advance cooperation and open new avenues for collaboration. He also expressed anticipation for the Jordan-India Business Forum as an opportunity to discuss business-to-business partnerships and joint investments in key sectors.
Emphasizing the significance of the timing, the Jordanian monarch said the forum would help expand trade and encourage investment, adding that the visit would pave the way for a brighter relationship between the two nations and shared progress.
Describing the visit as symbolic of enduring ties, King Abdullah II said it reflected decades of friendship and cooperation between India and Jordan. He noted that collaboration between the two countries has expanded across multiple sectors and said the visit provided an opportunity to chart new paths of economic cooperation in areas such as industry, information and communications technology, pharmaceuticals, agriculture, and energy.
Prime Minister Modi’s visit coincides with the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between India and Jordan and marks a full-fledged bilateral visit by an Indian prime minister after a gap of 37 years.
