New Delhi [India], February 12 (ANI): In a historic administrative shift, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the landmark Seva Teerth complex on February 13, marking the relocation of the Prime Minister’s Office from the British-era South Block.
The Seva Teerth complex will consolidate the Prime Minister’s Office, the National Security Council Secretariat, and the Cabinet Secretariat—offices that previously operated from multiple locations. Built to 4-Star GRIHA standards, the complex represents a major step toward modern, efficient, and environmentally responsible governance.
Replacing fragmented and ageing infrastructure across the Central Vista area, the new eco-friendly facilities are designed to foster a secure, efficient, and citizen-centric governance ecosystem. For decades, the dispersion of key ministries had led to coordination challenges, rising maintenance costs, and sub-optimal working conditions.
The Prime Minister will formally unveil the name Seva Teerth at 1:30 PM, address a public programme at 6:00 PM, and officially inaugurate Seva Teerth along with Kartavya Bhavan-1 and Kartavya Bhavan-2.
Kartavya Bhavan-1 and 2 will house several major ministries, including Finance, Defence, Health & Family Welfare, Corporate Affairs, Education, Culture, Law & Justice, Information & Broadcasting, Agriculture & Farmers Welfare, Chemicals & Fertilizers, and Tribal Affairs.
Both complexes feature digitally integrated offices, centralised reception areas, and structured public interface zones. These design elements aim to improve coordination, enhance citizen engagement, streamline governance processes, and support employee well-being.
In line with sustainability goals, the buildings incorporate renewable energy systems, water conservation mechanisms, advanced waste management solutions, and high-performance building envelopes—significantly reducing environmental impact while boosting operational efficiency.
The complexes also include robust safety and security infrastructure, such as smart access controls, integrated surveillance networks, and advanced emergency response systems, ensuring a secure and accessible environment for officials and visitors.
Union Minister (Independent Charge) for Science and Technology Jitendra Singh described the move as symbolic of the Prime Minister’s resolve to “shed colonial legacies,” noting that the PMO’s relocation from South Block represents a decisive break from the colonial past.
Singh also highlighted the significance of the inauguration date. On February 13, 1931, the British formally declared New Delhi the capital of colonial India—making the transition to Seva Teerth on the same date deeply symbolic of a “truly Aatmanirbhar, self-confident New India.”
In a post on X, Singh wrote that February 13, 2026, marks a new chapter in independent India’s history, reflecting Prime Minister Modi’s determination to move governance away from colonial symbolism toward national self-confidence and service-oriented administration.
Earlier, in 2016, the Prime Minister’s official residence was renamed Lok Kalyan Marg, signalling a shift from authority and exclusivity toward public welfare. Similar changes have followed across India, including the renaming of Raj Bhavans in several states as Lok Bhavans.
India’s public institutions, sources noted, are undergoing a quiet yet profound transformation—moving governance from “satta to seva” and from authority to responsibility. (ANI)
