New Delhi [India], April 27 (ANI): Prime Minister Narendra Modi has called on the public to use the “Sachet” mobile application launched by the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) to stay alert and avoid getting caught in natural disasters such as floods, cyclones, and landslides.
During his Mann Ki Baat address, PM Modi emphasized that the app provides real-time, geo-tagged early warning alerts to help individuals stay informed about potential disasters in their areas. He explained, “The most important thing in dealing with any natural disaster is your alertness. You can now get help in this alertness from a special app on your mobile. This app can save you from getting trapped in any natural disaster, and its name is ‘Sachet’.”
He outlined that the app covers a range of natural disasters, including floods, cyclones, landslides, tsunamis, forest fires, avalanches, storms, hurricanes, and lightning. The app offers timely updates from the weather department and provides information in regional languages to ensure accessibility for a wider audience.
“Sachet App also provides a lot of information in regional languages. Take advantage of this app and share your experience with us,” he said.
The app allows users to receive alerts based on their current location or subscribe to notifications for specific states or districts across India. Additionally, it offers weather reports from the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), as well as useful resources such as Dos & Don’ts, helpline numbers, and satellite receiver connectivity features.
PM Modi also discussed India’s swift response to the earthquake in Myanmar through Operation Brahma, which provided critical relief and rescue support. He praised the efforts of the Indian team, which set up a field hospital, supplied essential items such as blankets, food, and medicines, and helped assess damage to infrastructure.
“The Indian team rescued a 70-year-old woman who had been trapped under debris for over 18 hours. The team stabilized her oxygen levels and treated her fractures. She expressed her gratitude, saying that she had received a new life thanks to the Indian rescue team,” PM Modi shared.
The earthquake in Myanmar claimed 3,645 lives, injured over 5,000, and left many missing. PM Modi concluded his address by highlighting India’s role as a global ally, driven by the sentiment of “Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam” (the world is one family), and reaffirming India’s commitment to humanity. (ANI)
