Washington DC [US], June 29 (ANI): US President Donald Trump on Saturday denounced the ongoing corruption trial of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu as a “political witch hunt,” expressing outrage that the Israeli leader is being forced to attend court while navigating critical national security challenges.
In a post on his Truth Social platform, Trump defended Netanyahu, calling him a “War Hero” and a “fabulous” ally in countering Iran’s nuclear ambitions. “It is terrible what they are doing in Israel to Bibi Netanyahu,” Trump wrote. “He is a Prime Minister who did a fabulous job working with the United States to bring Great Success in getting rid of the dangerous Nuclear threat in Iran.”
Netanyahu, currently on trial in three corruption cases—known as Case 1000, Case 2000, and Case 4000—faces charges of bribery, fraud, and breach of trust. He has repeatedly denied all accusations, labeling them as politically motivated and “fake.” His trial began in 2020 and marks the first time a sitting Israeli Prime Minister is facing a criminal trial while in office.
Trump’s comments come as Netanyahu leads high-stakes negotiations with Hamas aimed at securing the release of Israeli hostages. Trump expressed disbelief that Netanyahu must “sit in a courtroom all day long, over NOTHING (Cigars, Bugs Bunny Doll, etc.).” He likened Netanyahu’s legal ordeal to his own, saying both are victims of politically driven prosecutions.
“This travesty of ‘Justice’ will interfere with both Iran and Hamas negotiations. In other words, it is INSANITY doing what the out-of-control prosecutors are doing to Bibi Netanyahu,” Trump added. “We just had a Great Victory with Prime Minister Bibi Netanyahu at the helm — And this greatly tarnishes our Victory. LET BIBI GO, HE’S GOT A BIG JOB TO DO!”
In addition to the domestic corruption trial, the International Criminal Court (ICC) has issued an arrest warrant against Netanyahu, accusing him of war crimes and crimes against humanity, including the alleged targeting of civilians and the use of starvation tactics in Gaza. These allegations have further intensified international scrutiny of his leadership amid Israel’s ongoing conflict with Iran and Palestinian groups.
Despite the charges, Israeli law does not require Netanyahu to resign unless he is convicted and the Supreme Court upholds the decision.
Trump has consistently positioned himself as a staunch supporter of Israel and Netanyahu. His strong condemnation of the judicial process in Israel reflects growing political divides over Netanyahu’s legal challenges and the broader implications for Israel’s governance during a time of escalating regional tensions.
