New Delhi [India], April 23 (ANI): Union Minister Prahlad Joshi on Wednesday confirmed that three residents of Karnataka were among those killed in the horrific terror attack that struck Baisaran valley near Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir.
Speaking to ANI, Prahlad Joshi stated, “A total of three people from Karnataka have died in the Pahalgam terrorist attack that took place yesterday.” He further shared that, following discussions with the Minister of Civil Aviation, an additional flight has been arranged to aid those affected from Karnataka.
“This is a terrorist attack aimed at damaging the tourism prospects in Jammu and Kashmir. The government is taking all necessary precautions and will continue to do so,” Joshi emphasized.
The brutal assault occurred around 3 pm on Tuesday when heavily armed terrorists descended from the mountains into Baisaran — a scenic spot nicknamed ‘mini Switzerland’ for its picturesque green meadows — and opened fire on tourists.
Earlier in the day, a team from the National Investigation Agency (NIA), led by a Deputy Inspector General-rank officer, visited the site to assist Jammu and Kashmir Police with the ongoing investigation. The incident has been labeled the deadliest attack on civilians in the region in nearly two decades.
Official sources confirmed to ANI that the NIA’s role includes collecting forensic evidence, analyzing the nature of the assault, and helping identify those responsible. The terror group responsible is believed to be The Resistance Front (TRF), a proxy of the Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba.
So far, 26 tourists have lost their lives and over three dozen have sustained injuries in the attack. The government and security agencies have launched a massive manhunt to track down the perpetrators and prevent further violence. (ANI)
