President Droupadi Murmu expressed deep sorrow on Wednesday over the tragic stampede near Bengaluru’s M Chinnaswamy Stadium that claimed multiple lives and left several others injured. Calling the incident “shocking and heartbreaking,” the President offered condolences to the bereaved families and wished a speedy recovery to the injured.
In a post on social media platform X, President Murmu wrote,
“The loss of lives in the tragic happening at a stadium in Bengaluru is shocking and heartbreaking. My condolences to the bereaved families and prayers for the speedy recovery of the injured.”

The tragedy occurred during a celebratory gathering following Royal Challengers Bangalore’s (RCB) historic Indian Premier League (IPL) victory, casting a shadow over what was meant to be a moment of joy.
Joining in the national grief, Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Abhishek Banerjee expressed his condolences and solidarity with the affected families.
“Shocked and saddened by the tragic stampede at Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. My thoughts and prayers are with the families who have lost their loved ones in this unimaginable tragedy,” Banerjee wrote on X.

He added,
“Wishing strength and a speedy recovery to all those who are injured. May the departed souls rest in peace and may their families find comfort in this difficult time.”
Meanwhile, National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) member Priyank Kanoongo termed the incident “very painful” and emphasized accountability.
“The incident of death of innocent people in the stampede during the celebration of victory in IPL cricket tournament in Karnataka is very sad. The incident is being taken cognizance of, responsibility of the culprits will be fixed after investigation, no culprit will be allowed to escape,” Kanoongo stated.

He urged citizens to provide direct information about victims to aid the investigation and ensure justice, stating,
“Citizens are requested to send information of the injured and dead directly to me by email and participate in helping the victims. Information of any victim should not be hidden and it is our duty to get them justice.”
The unfortunate incident marred the celebrations of RCB’s long-awaited maiden IPL title, won in a dramatic final against Punjab Kings at Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium. RCB secured victory by six runs, marking a historic achievement that has now been tragically overshadowed. (ANI)
