New Delhi [India], May 12 (ANI): Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address the nation at 8 pm on Monday. This address comes in the wake of recent tensions between India and Pakistan, following the Pahalgam terror attack on April 22, which claimed 26 lives.
In a statement last month, PM Modi had vowed that the perpetrators of the Pahalgam attack would face punishment “beyond their imagination.” Subsequently, on May 7, India launched precision strikes targeting terror camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK), resulting in the elimination of over 100 terrorists. The Indian Armed Forces also neutralized Pakistani air bases in a series of calibrated strikes.
India’s military operations were a firm response to Pakistan’s cross-border terrorism, including air and land intrusions. In a decisive move, India also put the Indus Waters Treaty in abeyance, signaling its intolerance towards terrorism and cross-border aggression.
Earlier today, senior commanders from the Indian Army, Air Force, and Navy, including Army DGMO Lt Gen Rajiv Ghai, Air Marshal AK Bharti, and Vice Admiral AN Pramod, addressed the media in a joint press conference. They highlighted India’s robust air defense preparedness and the success of Operation Sindoor, which targeted nine terrorist infrastructure sites in Pakistan and PoJK.
Air Marshal AK Bharti asserted that the strikes were focused on terrorist networks, but any collateral military loss on the Pakistani side was due to their own interference. He emphasized that India’s response remained measured despite provocations.
Lt Gen Rajiv Ghai revealed that the Pakistan DGMO proposed a cessation of hostilities on May 10, which was agreed upon after communication at 15:35 hrs, with a ceasefire taking effect at 17:00 hrs. However, within hours, Pakistan violated the agreement with cross-border firing and drone intrusions. These acts were met with a strong retaliatory response by the Indian Armed Forces.
India made it clear that any further violations would be fiercely countered, with full authority granted to Army Commanders to respond as needed. The Chief of Army Staff has authorized decisive action to maintain national security.
Operation Sindoor was launched as a direct response to the Pahalgam terror attack, where 26 civilians lost their lives. The operation has been seen as a strong statement against terrorism and cross-border attacks.
As tensions continue to simmer, PM Modi’s address is expected to provide clarity on the government’s stance and the way forward in managing the current situation.
