California, United States, May 3 (ANI): Prince Harry has voiced a heartfelt desire to reconcile with members of the British Royal Family, while also expressing deep disappointment over a recent UK High Court ruling regarding his security arrangements. The Duke of Sussex stated that the decision now renders it “impossible” for him to safely bring his wife and children back to the United Kingdom, according to CBS News.
“I can’t see a world in which I would bring my wife and children back to the UK at this point,” Harry said. “I miss parts of the UK—of course I do. And I think it’s really quite sad that I won’t be able to show, you know, my children.”
Prince Harry, who stepped down from his role as a senior member of the Royal Family in 2020, has since relocated to California with his wife, Meghan Markle, and their two children, Archie and Lilibet. As a result of his departure from royal duties, his entitlement to automatic security was rescinded.
On Friday, the Court of Appeal in England and Wales rejected Prince Harry’s legal challenge to the process by which his security protections were withdrawn. Describing the ruling as devastating, he said it left him and his family vulnerable.
“This is, at the heart of it, a family dispute,” Harry explained. “And it makes me really, really sad that we’re sitting here today, five years later, with the result of a decision that was most likely—actually, I know—intended to keep us under their roof.”
He added, “But once they realized that wasn’t going to work—once they saw that my wife, my kids, and I were happier outside the institution—they should have looked at the facts, the risks, the threats, and the impact. If anything were to happen to me, my wife, or my father’s grandchildren, just look at where the responsibility would lie. This duty of care has been completely thrown out the window.”
The court acknowledged that Ravec, the committee responsible for determining royal security, had deviated from standard policy when it removed Prince Harry’s full protective detail. However, it concluded that the committee had acted “sensibly” given the specific context of his situation.
Prince Harry stated that any future visit to the UK would require a formal invitation from the Royal Family, as such events typically trigger appropriate security protocols. He also suggested that the decision to limit his protection may have been part of an effort to coerce his return to royal life.
“Everybody knew they were putting us at risk in 2020,” he said. “And they hoped that knowing that risk would compel us to return. But when that didn’t work, wouldn’t you still want to keep us safe? Whether you’re the government, the royal household, my dad, or my family—despite all of our differences—don’t you just want to ensure our safety?”
Harry also acknowledged his continued estrangement from his father, King Charles III, who is currently undergoing treatment for cancer.
“I would love reconciliation with my family. There’s no point in continuing to fight anymore. Life is precious. I don’t know how much longer my father has. He won’t speak to me because of this security stuff. But it would be nice to reconcile,” he said.
