Wayanad (Kerala) [India], May 5 (ANI): Congress MP from Wayanad, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, visited the newly operational Post Office Passport Seva Kendra in her constituency on Monday, expressing her satisfaction with the facility and highlighting its potential to significantly ease passport-related services for the local population.
“We are all very happy about this. I’m glad that the centre is open because it will be very convenient for the people here,” she told reporters. “I believe there is also a mobile system in place that reaches more remote areas, which is a great idea. Currently, they are processing about 40 passports a day. I’m sure the number will grow, but I’m very pleased with what I saw.”
In addition to her visit to the Seva Kendra, Priyanka Gandhi also addressed broader national issues during her stay in Wayanad. On Sunday, she commented on the Central Government’s decision to include caste enumeration in the upcoming census, asserting that the move was a result of sustained pressure.
Speaking to the media, she said, “My brother Rahul took up this cause last year and repeatedly brought it to public attention. Despite being mocked and ridiculed by BJP ministers and even the Prime Minister in Parliament, he persisted. Now, under pressure, the government has agreed to move forward with caste enumeration.”
As part of her constituency engagement, Priyanka Gandhi also visited the Wayanad Wildlife Division office, where she handed over an ambulance to aid the local community.
Priyanka Gandhi Vadra won the Wayanad Lok Sabha seat with a decisive margin of 4,10,931 votes, defeating Sathyan Mokeri of the Communist Party of India (CPI). The seat was previously held by her brother, Rahul Gandhi, who chose to contest from Raebareli in Uttar Pradesh for this election cycle and secured a victory there.
