New Delhi [India], June 5 (ANI): Ahead of inaugurating the Vande Bharat Express between Katra and Srinagar on June 6, marking the completion of the Katra-Sangaldan rail link project, Prime Minister Narendra Modi highlighted that major infrastructure projects worth Rs 46,000 crores being inaugurated will significantly benefit people’s lives.
In a post on X, PM Modi said, “Tomorrow, 6th June is indeed a special day for my sisters and brothers of Jammu and Kashmir. Key infrastructure projects worth Rs. 46,000 crores are being inaugurated which will have a very positive impact on people’s lives.”
He praised the Chenab Rail Bridge as an extraordinary architectural feat that will enhance connectivity between Jammu and Srinagar. He also pointed out the Anji Bridge, India’s first cable-stayed rail bridge built in challenging terrain.
“The Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Link (USBRL) project ensures all-weather connectivity, and the Vande Bharat trains from Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra to Srinagar will boost spiritual tourism and create livelihood opportunities,” he added.
Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah visited the Chenab Bridge ahead of the PM’s visit to review arrangements, calling the inauguration a historic moment that finally connects the valley by rail to the rest of India.
Union Minister Jitendra Singh recalled that when PM Modi assumed office in 2014, work on the bridge was nearly halted amid controversies about its feasibility and safety. He emphasized that the bridge’s completion will facilitate easier travel and business, allowing people to reach Srinagar from Katra within three hours.
Northern Railway announced that regular Vande Bharat Express services on the Srinagar-Katra route will commence from June 7. The trains will operate six days a week, excluding Wednesdays, with intermediate halts at Banihal, significantly improving connectivity between Kashmir Valley and the prominent pilgrimage destination.
