Washington [US], April 20 (ANI): Thousands of protesters took to the streets across the United States on Saturday, voicing strong opposition to President Donald Trump’s policies in what organizers called a second wave of nationwide demonstrations.
While turnout in cities such as New York, Washington DC, and Chicago was smaller than the earlier protests on April 5, organizers said over 700 events were planned nationwide—from Jacksonville, Florida, to Los Angeles—according to The New York Times.
Demonstrators cited a broad range of grievances, including immigration policies, threats of new tariffs, federal job cuts, and concerns about civil liberties. Outside the White House, crowds chanted “shame!” in protest of the administration’s actions.
One prominent issue raised was the wrongful deportation of Kilmar Armando Abrego Garcia, a Maryland man sent to El Salvador. Protesters marching from the Washington Monument called for his return and demanded accountability.
Aaron Burk, a Washington protester, expressed deep concern: “I am worried that the administration would not stop at deporting undocumented immigrants without due process and would imprison and deport U.S. citizens. Where does it stop?” Burk, whose daughter is transgender, said he was also alarmed by the dehumanization of minorities.
In Jacksonville, hundreds gathered to protest the administration’s stance on LGBTQ rights and environmental regulations. Sara Harvey, a demonstrator, criticized recent federal job cuts led by Elon Musk and the administration’s efforts to change the Endangered Species Act. “We are losing our country,” she said, adding that she had been protesting regularly in recent months.
The protests mark a growing wave of public dissent as Trump’s policies continue to draw backlash from a wide cross-section of American society.
