Chandigarh (Punjab) [India], April 30 (ANI): In response to increasing drone activity and heightened tensions along the India-Pakistan border, the Punjab government has announced plans to deploy an advanced anti-drone system across its border with Pakistan. This move aims to curb cross-border smuggling of weapons and narcotics, which has become a growing security concern in the region.
According to a statement issued by the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) of Punjab, the deployment of this anti-drone system is intended to immediately detect, intercept, and neutralize drones attempting to infiltrate Indian airspace from across the border. The initiative is expected to strengthen surveillance and response capabilities for both police and security forces operating in the area.
“The conspiracy to send weapons and drugs through drones coming from Pakistan will fail. With the deployment of this anti-drone system, police and security agencies will be able to immediately track and destroy any intruding drones,” the statement from the Punjab CMO affirmed.
This strategic measure comes at a time of increased ceasefire violations from Pakistan, particularly in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir.
On the intervening night of April 29 and 30, the Pakistan Army reportedly initiated unprovoked small-arms fire across the Line of Control (LoC) in Naushera, Sunderbani, and Akhnoor sectors of Jammu. In retaliation, the Indian Army responded swiftly and proportionately, ensuring the safety of its posts.
Further violations were reported in the northern districts of Baramulla and Kupwara, and along the International Border (IB) in the Pargwal sector.
“During the night of 29-30 April, Pakistan Army posts initiated unprovoked small-arms fire… Indian Army troops responded swiftly and proportionately,” read an official statement from the Indian Army.
This marks the sixth consecutive day of Pakistani ceasefire violations, beginning with unprovoked firing on the night of April 25–26. The ongoing hostilities and aerial threats underscore the urgency of Punjab’s latest countermeasure.
The deployment of anti-drone systems by the Punjab government reflects a growing commitment to national security, aiming to bolster defense preparedness along one of the most sensitive international borders in the country.
