Doha [Qatar], May 14 (ANI): Qatar Airways has inked a landmark agreement with US aerospace giant Boeing to purchase 160 jets, valued at approximately USD 200 billion. The deal was finalized during US President Donald Trump’s visit to Qatar, where he and Qatar’s Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani attended the signing ceremony, CNN reported.
President Trump praised the agreement, calling it a record-setting deal. “So it’s over USD 200 billion but 160 in terms of the Jets, that’s fantastic,” Trump remarked. Addressing Boeing CEO Kelly Ortberg, Trump added, “That’s a record, Kelly, then congratulations to Boeing.”
The agreement marks one of the largest single aviation deals in history, reflecting a significant expansion of Qatar Airways’ fleet. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth was also present, signing additional agreements related to defense cooperation, including a statement of intent and offer and acceptance letters for MQ 9B aircraft and FS-LIDS.
Trump and the Emir also signed a joint declaration of cooperation between Qatar and the United States, underscoring enhanced diplomatic and defense relations. Al Jazeera reported that the leaders held comprehensive discussions on key global issues, including the Russia-Ukraine war, Iran, and trade relations, describing the conversations as fruitful and productive.
Commenting on the bilateral relationship, President Trump praised the Emir, saying, “We’ve been friends for a long time, and this is an outstanding man.” The Emir reciprocated by expressing optimism about advancing Qatar-US relations to a new level following the signing of the agreements.
Trump arrived in Doha as part of a four-day trip to the Gulf region, having previously visited Saudi Arabia. The UAE is scheduled to be his final stop. (ANI)
