New Delhi [India], April 30 (ANI): Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has expressed deep sorrow over the tragic wall collapse at the Sri Varahalakshmi Narasimha Swamy Temple in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, which resulted in the deaths of eight people and left four others injured.
In a heartfelt post shared on Facebook, Rahul Gandhi wrote, “Saddened by the loss of lives during the tragic accident at Sri Varahalakshmi Narasimha Swamy temple, Visakhapatnam.” He extended his condolences to the bereaved families and offered prayers for the swift recovery of the injured. “My heartfelt condolences to the families who lost their loved ones. Wishing a speedy recovery to those injured,” he added.
The incident occurred during the Chandanotsavam festival at the temple, when a 20-foot-long makeshift structure collapsed, crushing devotees under the debris.
Meanwhile, YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) spokesperson Konda Rajiv raised concerns about negligence, stating that both locals and devotees had previously expressed doubts about the construction quality of the wall. “An unfortunate incident took place during Chandanotsavam… due to a wall collapse, innocent devotees lost their lives. I urge the government to take better medical measures to treat the injured. Who is responsible for this? Devotees and locals had raised concerns earlier, but there was no response from the authorities,” Rajiv said in a video shared by the party’s media cell.
Authorities have concluded rescue operations, and an investigation is underway to determine the exact cause of the structural failure.
