New Delhi [India], June 30 (ANI): In a move aimed at rationalising fare structures and improving the financial sustainability of passenger services, the Ministry of Railways announced revised fares for passenger train services effective from July 1, 2025. The updated fare structure is based on the new Passenger Fare Table issued by the Indian Railway Conference Association (IRCA), according to an official release.
There will be no change in suburban single journey fares or season tickets for both suburban and non-suburban routes, the ministry clarified.
For ordinary non-AC classes in non-suburban trains, second-class fares will increase by 0.5 paise per kilometre. However, there will be no increase for journeys up to 500 km. A Rs 5 increase will apply for journeys between 501 and 1500 km, Rs 10 for distances between 1501 and 2500 km, and Rs 15 for distances between 2501 and 3000 km. Sleeper and first-class fares in these trains will also follow a similar pattern. First class fares will also rise by 0.5 paise per kilometre.
For Mail and Express trains, the fare hike is slightly higher. Second-class fares will increase by 1 paisa per kilometre, while sleeper and first-class fares will increase proportionately.
AC classes, including AC Chair Car, AC 3-Tier/3-Economy, AC 2-Tier, and AC First/Executive/Executive Anubhuti classes, will see a fare increase of 2 paise per kilometre.
The fare rationalisation also applies to premier and special trains such as Rajdhani, Shatabdi, Duronto, Vande Bharat, Tejas, Humsafar, Amrit Bharat, Mahamana, Gatimaan, Antyodaya, Jan Shatabdi, Yuva Express, AC Vistadome coaches, Anubhuti coaches, and Ordinary non-suburban services.
There will be no changes to ancillary charges such as reservation fees, superfast surcharges, or other applicable fees. GST will continue to apply as per existing rules, and fare rounding principles remain unchanged.
The revised fares will be applicable to tickets booked on or after July 1, 2025. Tickets issued before this date will remain valid at the existing fare, with no retrospective fare adjustment.
The Passenger Reservation System (PRS), Unreserved Ticketing System (UTS), and manual ticketing operations are being updated to reflect the new fare structure.
The Ministry has also instructed all Zonal Railways to ensure smooth implementation, including updating fare displays at railway stations. (ANI)
