
New Delhi [India], April 7 (ANI): The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has sounded a red alert for Gujarat and West Rajasthan, warning of ongoing heatwave to severe heatwave conditions in these regions. IMD Scientist Dr. Naresh Kumar also cautioned that Delhi is likely to experience a heatwave over the next three days, with rising temperatures already being observed.
“Heatwave to severe heatwave conditions currently prevail in Gujarat, for which we have issued a red alert. Red alert has also been issued for West Rajasthan for the coming two days,” said Dr. Kumar while speaking to ANI.
Upcoming Heatwave Alerts:
- Gujarat: Severe heatwave, red alert in place.
- West Rajasthan: Red alert for next 2 days.
- Punjab: Heatwave likely over the next 3 days.
- Haryana: Likely to see heatwave conditions in the next 4 days.
- Delhi: Temperatures expected to rise further, heatwave expected over next 3 days.
He also mentioned that a Western Disturbance is expected to impact the Western Himalayan region beginning April 8, which could bring relief to the hills and possibly lead to a drop in temperatures in Punjab and Haryana after three days.
In Delhi-NCR, weather over the past 24 hours has shown:
- Maximum temperatures between 38°C to 39°C, 2–4°C above normal.
- Minimum temperatures between 19°C to 23°C, near normal.
- Clear skies and west-northwesterly winds up to 18 km/h have contributed to the heating trend.
Residents in affected regions are advised to:
- Stay hydrated,
- Avoid direct exposure to sunlight during peak hours,
- Use protective gear such as umbrellas or hats,
- Check on vulnerable populations like children and the elderly.
