Washington, DC [US], February 4 (ANI): As the United States convened a meeting of several nations on critical minerals on Wednesday, a move widely seen as an effort to protect supply chains from China’s virtual hegemony, US President Donald Trump held a telephone conversation with Chinese President Xi Jinping.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump described the call as “excellent,” confirmed his planned visit to China in April, and said the relationship between the two countries was “extremely good.”
“I have just completed an excellent telephone conversation with President Xi, of China. It was a long and thorough call, where many important subjects were discussed,” Trump wrote. He said the discussions covered trade, military issues, his upcoming April visit to China, Taiwan, the war between Russia and Ukraine, the situation with Iran, and China’s purchase of oil and gas from the United States.
Trump also said the talks included China’s consideration of purchasing additional US agricultural products, including raising soybean purchases to 20 million tons for the current season and committing to 25 million tons for the next season. Other topics included airplane engine deliveries and several additional issues, which Trump described as “very positive.”
“The relationship with China, and my personal relationship with President Xi, is an extremely good one, and we both realize how important it is to keep it that way,” Trump said, adding that he believes many positive outcomes will be achieved over the next three years of his presidency in relation to China and President Xi.
According to China Daily, President Xi told Trump that he was ready to work with him to guide China-US relations through challenges in the new year toward steady progress. Xi said that as long as China and the United States move toward each other with an attitude of equality, mutual respect, and mutual benefit, solutions can be found to each other’s concerns.
Xi also told Trump that the Taiwan question is the most important issue in China-US relations and said Taiwan would never be allowed to separate from China. He added that the US must handle arms sales to Taiwan with caution.
Earlier, President Xi held a virtual meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin, during which he said China and Russia should increase high-level exchanges and strengthen pragmatic cooperation across various fields.
Noting that this year marks the beginning of China’s 15th Five-Year Plan period, Xi said the country would take a more proactive approach to expanding high-level opening up and would share new development opportunities with countries around the world, including Russia, Xinhua reported. (ANI)
