Washington, December 19 (ANI): American politicians and the public are awaiting the release of the long-anticipated Epstein files, even as Democrats on the House Oversight Committee released another set of images from the estate of Jeffrey Epstein. The full tranche of documents is expected to be released by midnight on Friday.
US Representative Ro Khanna of California’s 17th Congressional District said the release would finally bring accountability for wealthy and powerful individuals who covered up abuse. Khanna said the documents are being released under his Epstein Transparency Act and following orders from three federal judges.
“By 11:59 pm on Friday, the Epstein files will finally be released. We will see thousands of documents that should have been made public decades ago,” Khanna said. He added that dozens of lawyers in the Department of Justice’s national security team were currently preparing the documents for release.
Khanna stressed the need for a full and unredacted disclosure, warning that any attempt to conceal or excessively redact documents would amount to obstruction of justice. “Anyone who tampers with these documents or conceals information will be prosecuted, regardless of whether they are the Attorney General, a political appointee, or a career official,” he said.
Calling for justice for survivors, Khanna said the release would mark a turning point. “Tomorrow, rich and powerful men who raped underage girls or covered up this abuse will finally be held accountable. The Epstein class needs to go,” he added.
Meanwhile, House Democrats on Thursday released around 70 photographs recovered from Epstein’s computer and email accounts. One image shows former Microsoft CEO Bill Gates standing next to a woman whose face has been redacted, while another shows philosopher Noam Chomsky seated next to Epstein on a plane, according to PBS News.
Several photographs depict social gatherings and meals attended by Epstein and other public figures, though many faces remain redacted. The Epstein estate did not provide context for the images. Other photographs show Epstein with women whose identities are obscured, as well as unidentified identification cards or passports from countries including Russia and the Czech Republic.
One undated image reportedly shows a quote from Vladimir Nabokov’s Lolita written on someone’s foot, though no explanation was provided for the photograph.
“Oversight Democrats will continue to release photographs and documents from the Epstein estate to provide transparency for the American people,” said Robert Garcia, Ranking Member of the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform.
Garcia said the newly released images raise further questions about what information the Department of Justice possesses. “As we approach the deadline set by the Epstein Files Transparency Act, we must end this cover-up. The DOJ must release the Epstein files now,” he added.
