Patna, April 15:
Rashtriya Lok Janshakti Party (RLJP) chief Pashupati Kumar Paras has called for unity and consolidation within the INDIA alliance to defeat the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) in the upcoming Bihar Assembly elections.
Speaking to ANI in Patna on Tuesday, Paras described the meeting between RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav and Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge as “very successful” and “a good start” for the INDIA bloc’s preparations in Bihar.
He emphasised the need for the alliance to be visible and active across all 38 districts of the state by the end of April. “Our party plans to go to the districts of Bihar to strengthen the organisation and solve the supporters’ problems by August,” Paras stated, highlighting the importance of grassroots outreach.
Paras, who recently announced his party’s exit from the NDA, accused the alliance of neglecting RLJP despite its consistent support since 2014. “People in Bihar are in a mood for change. We have seen that the Dalit community is angry with the NDA alliance,” he said, signalling growing discontent among marginalized communities.
The RLJP is now conducting a membership drive and has announced its intention to contest all 243 assembly seats in Bihar.
Meanwhile, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge reinforced the opposition alliance’s commitment to ousting the BJP-led NDA. In a post on social media, he stated, “This time, change is certain in Bihar. We will give the people a strong, positive, just and welfare-oriented alternative.”
The upcoming Bihar elections are expected to be a high-stakes political contest between the NDA—comprising the BJP and JD(U) led by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar—and the Mahagathbandhan or INDIA bloc, which includes the Congress, RJD, and Left parties. The state assembly polls are anticipated in October-November, though official dates are yet to be announced.
