Johannesburg [South Africa], November 25 (ANI): The recently concluded G20 Summit in Johannesburg brought together global leaders to discuss economic cooperation, sustainable development, and inclusive growth. On the sidelines of the gathering, TV BRICS interviewed Maksim Oreshkin, Russia’s Deputy Chief of Staff of the Presidential Executive Office, who outlined Moscow’s view on the rising influence of the Global South in shaping the world economy.
Oreshkin said the central theme of this year’s G20 Summit centered on economic expansion and stronger partnerships with nations of the Global South. Speaking after the first day of the leaders’ meeting, he emphasized that developing countries are increasingly driving global economic growth, according to TV BRICS.
“The trend remains that the countries of the Global South are increasingly dominating the structure of global economic growth,” he said. He noted that these nations are advancing through their own initiatives in technology, education, and infrastructure development.
Oreshkin also underscored the growing significance of regional associations in the G20’s activities. “Involving all these associations means greater representation of the global majority at the G20 platform. This means that the opinion of the global majority will sound louder, will sound stronger, and, of course, will be taken into account to a greater extent,” he said.
He reaffirmed Russia’s strong commitment to the G20, calling it a vital platform for addressing global economic, social, and environmental priorities. Oreshkin praised the group’s recent consensus on a joint declaration that included constructive agreements on food security and sustainable development.
On trade relations with Africa, Oreshkin announced that Russia aims to double its mutual trade with the continent by 2030. He said this includes not only traditional goods but also the growing use of Russian technologies, with Russian companies and tech platforms expanding their presence in African markets.
With a population of 1.5 billion, Africa remains the fastest-growing region in the world, Oreshkin noted, adding that the urgency of development financing continues to pose a major challenge.
The final declaration adopted by Global South leaders during the G20 Summit reaffirmed shared priorities for strengthening international cooperation and promoting inclusive, sustainable growth worldwide, TV BRICS reported. (ANI)
