New York [US], May 14 (ANI): India is actively collaborating with the United Nations and its partner countries to address terrorism, focusing particularly on the recent Pahalgam terror attack. On Wednesday, an Indian technical team met with the Monitoring Team of the 1267 Sanctions Committee in New York to discuss the matter. The team is also engaging with the United Nations Office of Counter-Terrorism (UNOCT) and the Counter-Terrorism Committee Executive Directorate (CTED).
During a weekly briefing on Tuesday, Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal discussed the attack’s links to The Resistance Front (TRF), a terrorist group that has twice claimed responsibility for the Pahalgam incident. Jaiswal noted that TRF initially owned up to the attack but later withdrew the statement, possibly due to pressure from handlers.
“You would have seen that TRF had taken responsibility, and then, the second time again, they repeated the claim before retracting it, likely at the behest of their handlers,” Jaiswal said.
Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri has asserted that there is clear evidence linking TRF to the attack and emphasized that TRF operates as a front for the Pakistan-based terror group Lashkar-e-Taiba. India has been advocating for TRF’s listing as a terrorist entity by the United Nations Security Council’s 1267 Sanctions Committee.
Jaiswal confirmed that India is actively sharing investigation details with the UNSC, aiming to ensure that the committee acknowledges the evidence. “Over the last two years, we have been sharing information with the United Nations Security Council and the monitoring team of the sanctions committee, emphasizing why the TRF should be listed as a terrorist entity,” Jaiswal stated.
India’s ongoing diplomatic efforts also address Pakistan’s role in removing references to TRF from the UNSC press statement issued on April 25. Foreign Secretary Misri previously highlighted how Pakistan influenced the omission despite TRF’s clear involvement in the attack.
India continues to push for decisive UN action against TRF, reinforcing its commitment to combating terrorism on the global stage. (ANI)
