Shimla (Himachal Pradesh) [India], June 7 (ANI) – Senior Congress leader Sonia Gandhi, who has been on a personal visit to Shimla since June 2, underwent a routine medical check-up at the Indira Gandhi Medical College and Hospital (IGMC) on Saturday evening.
According to hospital officials, Sonia Gandhi arrived at IGMC around 5:00 pm accompanied by a limited entourage. The visit was kept discreet and formed part of her regular healthcare routine. Dr. Aman Chauhan, Deputy Medical Superintendent at IGMC, confirmed the visit and noted, “She had come for a routine check-up and left after it was completed. Her blood pressure was slightly on the higher side, but there is nothing serious.”
He added that no additional tests were conducted beyond standard investigations and no special medical advice was needed. “Everything was perfectly fine,” he said.
Himachal Pradesh Health Minister Colonel (Retd.) Dhani Ram Shandil also addressed the media to dispel any concerns regarding her health. “Sonia Gandhi is in very good health. It is common for anyone to undergo routine check-ups as part of maintaining good health. That is exactly what happened today. There is nothing to worry about,” he assured.
A press note issued by Dr. Rahul Rao, Medical Superintendent of IGMC, further confirmed that Sonia Gandhi’s visit was part of preventive and diagnostic care. A few medical tests were conducted under the supervision of a team of specialized doctors, and all necessary protocols were followed. “The visit was smoothly coordinated by the medical team. After routine investigations, she left the hospital,” the statement read.
Sonia Gandhi is currently staying at Chharabra, a scenic hilltop area on the outskirts of Shimla, at the residence of her daughter Priyanka Gandhi Vadra. Officials stated that she is expected to leave Shimla on Sunday morning.
To ensure minimal disruption at the hospital, the visit was coordinated with limited security arrangements. Hospital staff made sure the check-up process was handled efficiently and without inconvenience to other patients or hospital operations.
This visit marks yet another instance of Sonia Gandhi selecting Shimla as a destination for rest and rejuvenation, continuing the Gandhi family’s tradition of spending private time in the peaceful surroundings of Himachal Pradesh. (ANI)
