MUNICH, December 13 (ANI): Chairman of the Jeay Sindh Muttahida Mahaz (JSMM), Shafi Burfat, has strongly condemned the decision of a Pakistani military court sentencing former Army General and ex-ISI chief Faiz Hameed to 14 years in prison, describing it as a “staged drama” aimed at deceiving the public and reinforcing military dominance over the country’s political landscape.
In a post on X, Burfat claimed the sentence imposed on Faiz Hameed was largely symbolic and part of a broader psychological strategy by the military establishment to intimidate former Prime Minister Imran Khan and other political leaders.
He asserted that the true intent of the verdict was not accountability but coercion, designed to force political figures into submission under military authority.
Burfat described the military’s actions as historically ironic, alleging that Pakistan’s armed forces have never held their own members accountable for what he termed mass atrocities, including the deaths of nearly three million Bengalis and widespread sexual violence during the 1971 Bangladesh conflict. He claimed that instead of prosecuting those responsible, the Pakistani state has glorified them, particularly within Punjab.
Reflecting on Pakistan’s political history, Burfat alleged that former Prime Minister Zulfikar Ali Bhutto was “judicially murdered” through a fraudulent trial. He further claimed that Benazir Bhutto was killed in a terrorist attack orchestrated by the Inter-Services Intelligence.
He also accused the military of complicity in the assassination of Pakistan’s first Prime Minister, Liaquat Ali Khan, and the killing of Murtaza Bhutto by security forces.
The JSMM leader further alleged that the Pakistani state has carried out what he described as genocide against the Baloch people, waged a ruthless campaign against Pashtuns, and reduced Sindh to what he called an internal colony.
He claimed systematic destruction of Sindh’s resources, political autonomy, national identity, and historical existence under military rule.
Burfat described Pakistan’s military as one of the most corrupt institutions in the world, accusing it of fostering extremist and terrorist groups for decades. He alleged that terrorism and extremism in the region bear the “clear fingerprints” of the military establishment, which he likened to a hired enforcer acting on behalf of global powers rather than a sovereign national institution.
Targeting current Army Chief General Asim Munir, Burfat alleged that he is ideologically rigid, driven by religious extremism, and has openly threatened political parties. He accused the army leadership of abducting political activists through the ISI, coercing constitutional changes, and placing the military chief above the constitution. He also criticized what he described as the army chief granting himself an honorary Field Marshal-like status.
The Sindhi nationalist leader reiterated his claim that former Prime Minister Imran Khan has been imprisoned on false charges and subjected to psychological torture under military supervision. He said the sentencing of Faiz Hameed was intended to create an illusion of accountability while shielding the institution responsible for systemic oppression.
Burfat characterized Pakistan as an “artificial and unnatural state,” alleging that its military operates like a mafia that has forcibly turned historic nations, including Sindh, into internal colonies through coercion and force.
He further claimed that Pakistan’s nuclear arsenal is controlled by what he described as an unstable and extremist military leadership. According to Burfat, certain global powers have deliberately strengthened Pakistan’s army, using it as a proxy to advance regional strategic interests, posing a serious threat to both regional and global security.
