New Delhi, April 8 (ANI):
India’s mobile phone exports have achieved a historic high of over ₹2 lakh crore in the fiscal year 2024-25, Union Minister for Electronics and IT Ashwini Vaishnaw announced on Tuesday.
“Smartphone exports have achieved a new record… This makes mobile phones among the top exported goods from India,” said Vaishnaw, adding that iPhones alone contributed ₹1.5 lakh crore to the total export figure.
This marks a 54% year-on-year growth from FY 2023-24, showcasing the sharp upward trajectory of India’s electronics sector. Vaishnaw underlined that over the past decade:
- Electronics manufacturing has grown 5x
- Electronics exports have increased 6x
- Production is growing at a 17% CAGR
- Exports are rising at over 20% CAGR
Ecosystem Expansion & Policy Push
Vaishnaw credited the booming numbers to a maturing electronics manufacturing ecosystem, now supported by 400+ production units across India. “Like other countries, India started with finished goods, moved to assemblies, and is now advancing into component manufacturing,” he said.
To further accelerate this growth, the minister announced that the Electronics Component Manufacturing Scheme notification will be issued today. The scheme—backed by a ₹22,919 crore PLI package—aims to boost India’s self-reliance in the electronics supply chain.
“Components under the scheme will support sectors like consumer electronics, automobiles, power grids, medical devices, and more—creating a multiplier effect,” Vaishnaw added.
What’s Next?
- The scheme will support both active and passive components
- Industry consultations will begin soon to frame implementation guidelines
- Global tech giants like Merck and Linde are also setting up units in India
- The government will promote domestic capital equipment manufacturing to support the entire value chain
With these strategic measures, India is not only solidifying its position as a global smartphone hub but also taking concrete steps toward becoming an electronics manufacturing powerhouse.
