Dubai (UAE), May 13: Indian batter Smriti Mandhana has edged closer to the top spot in the ICC Women’s ODI Player Rankings following a stellar performance in the recent tri-series against Sri Lanka and South Africa. Mandhana, who amassed 264 runs in five innings with a century and a fifty, moved up one spot to second place, reducing the gap to just 11 rating points behind South Africa’s Laura Wolvaardt. Wolvaardt, the current top-ranked batter, managed just 86 runs during the series.
Despite consistently being among the top 10 since 2019, Smriti Mandhana has not held the premier ranking for women’s ODI batters since that year. Her recent performance, however, puts her in a strong position to reclaim the top spot.
Sri Lanka captain Chamari Athapaththu also made significant progress, rising two places to equal seventh after scoring 139 runs during the series. India’s Jemimah Rodrigues improved by five spots to reach 15th, while South Africa’s Chloe Tryon jumped nine places to 18th.
India spinner Sneh Rana, named Player of the Series, also saw an improvement, moving up four places to 34th among ODI bowlers after claiming 15 wickets at an average of 14 during the tri-series. South African seamer Nadine de Klerk rose to 24th overall, while Rana’s efforts helped her secure a joint 34th position. England’s Sophie Ecclestone continues to lead the bowling rankings.
In the all-rounder category, Australia’s Ash Gardner retains her number one spot, while India’s Deepti Sharma has moved up to fifth following her consistent performances. Additionally, South Africa’s Tryon and de Klerk also gained ground, moving to 11th and 12th places respectively.
