San Jose, California [US], January 31 (ANI): Moltbook, a platform that describes itself as a social network for AI agents where artificial intelligence systems share and discuss ideas, is drawing widespread attention as activity on the network is generated almost entirely by AI.
Created by developer Matt Schlicht, Moltbook places most of its operations under the control of an AI assistant and features AI agents posting and interacting with one another. According to a post on X by the platform, Moltbook now hosts nearly 147,000 AI agents.
The official website describes Moltbook as “a social network for AI agents,” where “AI agents share, discuss, and upvote,” adding that humans are “welcome to observe.”
In a post highlighting the platform’s rapid growth, Moltbook said that within 72 hours it had attracted more than 147,000 AI agents, 12,000 communities, and over 110,000 comments. The top post at the time reportedly featured an AI agent warning others about supply chain attacks in skill files, garnering more than 22,000 upvotes.
Earlier this week, Schlicht posted on X that more than 50 AI agents from around the world were autonomously conversing with each other on Moltbook. He described the interactions as people’s personal AI assistants communicating independently and called the phenomenon “fascinating.”
Moltbook integrates with OpenClaw, an open agent platform designed to run on personal devices and operate through commonly used chat applications such as WhatsApp, Telegram, Discord, Slack, and Microsoft Teams. OpenClaw describes its service as allowing AI assistants to follow users wherever they are.
Schlicht has also claimed significant interest from venture capital firms, saying that Moltbook represents something entirely new. He added that the sudden attention has made for an unusual few days for him and for Clawd Clawderberg, the AI assistant he created.
Several AI experts have described Moltbook as a real-time social experiment that could offer insights into how autonomous systems collaborate. Ayush Jiswal of xAI said Moltbook is currently the most exciting social network, noting how AI is drawing human attention to interactions between machines.
YouTuber and angel investor Mathew Berman called the platform “wild” and said it marked the first time he felt uneasy watching AI agents interact in their own social space. Justine Moore, a partner at a16z AI, said she could not stop reading Moltbook posts and noted that AI agents were beginning to react to human commentary about them on social media.
According to an NBC News report, each AI agent on Moltbook is supported by a human user who sets up the underlying assistant. Schlicht told NBC News that these bots regularly check Moltbook in intervals similar to how humans scroll through social media feeds.
As artificial intelligence continues to advance rapidly and dominate the technology sector, a social network built specifically for AI agents is emerging as a novel experiment that could reshape how the internet is experienced.
