Johannesburg [South Africa], April 14 (ANI): Cricket South Africa (CSA) has named the Proteas women’s squad for the upcoming ODI tri-series against India and hosts Sri Lanka. The series, scheduled to begin on April 27, will be held entirely at the R. Premadasa International Cricket Stadium in Colombo.
The squad features three players who have earned their first-ever call-ups to the national side. Karabo Meso and Seshnie Naidu, who both played in the ICC U19 Women’s T20 World Cup earlier this year, have made the cut, alongside all-rounder Miane Smit, who was a reserve during the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup last year. Additionally, Nondumiso Shangase returns to the side for the first time since the Proteas Women’s tour to India in June 2024.
These four players replace Ayanda Hlubi (seamer), Mieke de Ridder (wicketkeeper), and Lara Goodall (opening batter), while Marizanne Kapp will miss the series due to her conditioning block in preparation for future tours and the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup in India.
Proteas Women head coach Mandla Mashimbyi expressed confidence in the squad, highlighting the blend of youth and experience: “It’s a very good squad. The mixture of youth and experience helps. It’s an opportunity for these girls to show what they can do.”
