New Delhi [India], April 30 (ANI): Samajwadi Party (SP) Chief Akhilesh Yadav has sharply criticized the Central government following reports of a YouTube channel being shut down. In a post on X, he alleged that the true motivation behind the action was to protect larger news channels that had lost favor with the public but maintained close ties with the government.
Akhilesh Yadav pointed out that the government’s economic principle—“Jiska daana, uska gaana”—was behind efforts to suppress smaller, independent platforms. He argued that these government-backed channels, which audiences have rejected, continue to mislead and manipulate the public by exploiting emotions.
In his post, Yadav wrote: “The real reason behind shutting down a popular YouTube channel or filing an FIR against a folk singer is to save the big news channels that the audience has rejected and have an umbilical connection with the government, whose economic principle is: ‘Jiska daana, uska gaana.’ These are the so-called big news channels that serve a daily dose of stupidity.”
The SP Chief also criticized the BJP, claiming that such actions had exposed the party’s deceptive nature. He suggested that the restrictions on independent media outlets revealed the true face of the BJP, which he described as standing on lies.
“The best thing that has happened due to such restrictions is that the face of the scared BJP has been exposed in front of the common people. The BJP was standing based on lies, and those sinking channels that became the loudspeakers of the government are in a state of panic,” he stated, highlighting the chaotic state of government-supported media outlets.
Yadav further denounced the shutdowns as an ineffective attempt to salvage “morally and materially dying media,” asserting that audiences of smaller, self-funded YouTube channels are far more aware and would not turn to government-backed outlets.
He also emphasized the futility of such government restrictions in today’s digital age, where citizen journalism thrives. Yadav encouraged the public to unite and defend freedom of expression, urging a collective effort to preserve democracy and the constitution.
“One day or another, the rulers will have to face an angry public,” he concluded, calling for solidarity in defending the nation’s freedom and democracy.
