
Varna [Bulgaria], October 5 (ANI/TPS): A tragic accident at the “Aladzha Monastery” mountain climbing car race in Varna left one spectator dead and eight others injured, the Regional Directorate of the Ministry of Interior in Varna confirmed.
According to the report, a car veered off course after the driver missed a turn and breached the guardrail, striking spectators in the process. The deceased, a 60-year-old man, was among the crowd. A 27-year-old woman is currently in intensive care with life-threatening injuries, while a 39-year-old man is hospitalised in orthopedics with an ankle fracture.
Slavi Slavov, director of the race, told reporters that the victims had been in a restricted area clearly marked with warning signs and tape. He emphasised that the section where the accident occurred was off-limits to the public.
The driver was unharmed and voluntarily submitted a blood sample to verify whether alcohol or drugs played any role in the incident. Varna’s District Prosecutor’s Office has opened an investigation into the crash.
