Janakpur [Nepal], November 6 (ANI): Surveillance along the Nepal-India border in Dhanusha district has been intensified as the phased elections in neighboring Bihar began on Thursday. Security forces from both Nepal and India have increased vigilance at the Jatahi border checkpoint in Dhanusha, which connects the two countries.
On Thursday, the border crossing was closed from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. (local time) as the first phase of the Bihar assembly elections commenced. The Indian administration stated that the border was sealed to tighten security during the election period and to prevent any potential unlawful activities. Security personnel from both nations have been deployed across the border region.
With security on high alert, authorities from both countries have coordinated to strengthen checks and monitoring. According to Ganesh Bahadur Bam, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) of the District Police Office, Dhanusha, inspections and surveillance have been intensified to prevent disturbances during the election period. Anyone suspected by security forces is being questioned.
“The election is being held in India’s Bihar state, and the adjoining Madhubani area near Nepal’s Janakpur district is also going to the polls. From a security standpoint, India’s Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB), in coordination with us, has closed the border points stretching about 48 kilometers—from Inaruwa, Duhabi, and Thandi to Tulsihai. On November 6 and 11, during the election phases, complete restrictions have been imposed on cross-border movement from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. (local time). Security checks along the border have been heightened,” DSP Bam told ANI.
Elections are being held in 121 assembly constituencies in Bihar during the first phase, while the second phase covering 122 constituencies will take place on November 11. (ANI)
