Stockholm [Sweden], April 30 (ANI): A tragic shooting incident occurred in Uppsala, Sweden, on Tuesday, resulting in the deaths of three individuals.
The victims, aged between 15-20 years, were killed in a shooting near Vaksala Square. Swedish police have detained a 16-year-old suspect, who is believed to have fled the scene on an electric scooter.
The police have not yet informed the family members of the victims. A significant investigation is underway, with officers conducting door-to-door inquiries to gather information from witnesses.
Magnus Klarin, a spokesperson for the Swedish police, confirmed that several loud bangs, similar to gunshots, were reported in the area. However, Klarin refrained from providing further details before the deaths were confirmed. The exact motive behind the shooting remains unclear.
This incident occurred in a context of growing concern in Sweden over gang violence. Earlier this year, the European Parliament highlighted Sweden’s ongoing battle with this issue. Although Sweden has some of the strictest gun laws in the European Union, including a requirement for a license to own a firearm, incidents like these raise concerns about the increasing frequency of gun-related violence.
The shooting in Uppsala follows a deadly gunman attack in Orebro earlier this year, where 10 people were killed, and six others injured. The Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson had described that incident as the “worst mass shooting in Swedish history.”
