Washington, D.C. [US], May 2 (ANI): US State Department spokesperson Tammy Bruce affirmed that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has the full support of the Trump administration, amid rising tensions between India and Pakistan following the recent terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir.
Addressing the press on Friday, Bruce stated that the United States remains in constant communication with both the Indian and Pakistani governments and is closely monitoring the evolving situation. Citing the recent conversations US Secretary of State Marco Rubio held with India’s External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar and Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Bruce emphasized America’s stance.
“We are monitoring closely. Yesterday, the Secretary spoke with External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. As President Donald Trump articulated to Prime Minister Modi last week, the United States stands strong with India against terrorism, and Prime Minister Modi has our full support,” Bruce said.
She further highlighted that the United States is encouraging both countries to seek a responsible resolution that ensures long-term peace and regional stability. “We continue to be in touch with the governments of both countries, as I mentioned, at multiple levels,” Bruce added.
Responding to questions on whether the calls for de-escalation were being heeded, Bruce reiterated the US position, saying, “We are asking for a responsible resolution from both parties. Beyond that, there’s nothing more I can share.”
The remarks come against the backdrop of an uptick in ceasefire violations by Pakistan along the Line of Control (LoC) following the brutal April 22 attack in Pahalgam, where Pakistan-sponsored terrorists killed 26 civilians, mostly tourists, and injured many others.
In response to the attack, India has initiated several strong measures against Pakistan, including suspending the Indus Water Treaty, shutting down the Integrated Check Post at Attari, and reducing the diplomatic strength of each nation’s High Commissions.
The Indian government has also granted the armed forces full operational freedom to respond to the attacks. Indian Army units have retaliated effectively against multiple ceasefire violations by Pakistani forces in areas opposite Kupwara, Poonch, Tutmari Gali, and Rampur sectors.
In the wake of these events, security forces have intensified anti-terror operations across the Kashmir Valley to dismantle terror infrastructure and prevent further attacks.
The United States’ unequivocal support for India, as voiced by State Department spokesperson Tammy Bruce, marks a significant endorsement of India’s right to defend itself against terrorism and strengthens the strategic partnership between the two democracies.
