Bengaluru (Karnataka) [India], April 1 (ANI): A preschool teacher was arrested in Bengaluru on charges of extorting money and blackmailing a student’s father with whom she had been in an affair, according to Bengaluru Police.
The City Crime Branch (CCB) in Bengaluru arrested Sridevi Rudagi, 25, along with two others, Ganesh Kale and Sagar, for allegedly extorting Rs 4 lakh from the victim and further blackmailing him with photos and videos, demanding an additional Rs 20 lakh.
According to police, the victim, a trader living in a western Bengaluru neighborhood with his wife and three daughters, had enrolled his youngest child, a five-year-old, in the school in 2023.
The teacher and the victim met and established contact, using separate SIM cards to communicate through video calls and messages. Rudagi then extorted Rs 4 lakh from the student’s father.
In early 2025, she demanded more than Rs 15 lakh. When he hesitated, she visited his home under the pretext of borrowing Rs 50,000. Later, as the victim’s business faced setbacks, he decided to relocate his family to Gujarat and needed his child’s Transfer Certificate.
Upon reaching the school after filing a complaint, the father found himself cornered in Rudagi’s office by Kale and Sagar. They showed him private photographs and videos, demanding Rs 20 lakh to keep them confidential.
The father said he tried to negotiate, agreeing to pay Rs 15 lakh and transferring an initial Rs 1.9 lakh. However, the demands persisted. On March 17, Rudagi called him, reminding him of the payment breakdown: Rs 5 lakh for a former police officer, Rs 1 lakh each for Sagar and Kale, and the remaining Rs 8 lakh for herself.
Unable to endure the pressure any longer, he contacted the police, who quickly determined that the mentioned police officer had no involvement. Rudagi, Sagar, and Kale were arrested and sent to judicial custody for 14 days. (ANI)
